Alon Halevy, Executive Director at Recruit Institute of Technology (R.I.T), started off his speech at Slush Asia by explaining this revolutionary technique. For example, if you command Viv to “send flowers to my mother”, Viv will not only understand the location of your mother’s house, but also what kind of flowers it should send to her.
Going from a research scientist at Google to becoming the Executive Director of R.I.T, Alon Halevy claimed to be excited and crying “tears of joy” due to the new tech launches. The new AI technology does not only mean new ways of communicating, but it can also open up possibilities to balance your work life and free time in order to craft your daily life. Further, it enables people to work beyond borders without the need to adjust to a particular job location.
Halevy explained that he is not concerned about AI technology replacing human resources. Similar concerns have occurred before, but has always been solved by the evolution of new, even more interesting jobs.
However, there is a downside to the new technology. It is the fact that the social gap widens when the upper class of society can access the technology easily while the lower cannot. In his speech at Slush Asia, Halevy emphasized the importance of innovation in many social contexts, simply because an innovation tends to be most socially beneficial and culturally appropriate where the innovation is born.
As Halevy puts it: we are responsible for our own future and it is ours to build.
