Giroptic was among the finalists in last year’s Slush Tokyo Pitching Contest. “Slush Tokyo brought us incredible visibility in Japan and has helped establish Giroptic as an important actor in the VR Industry Landscape,” recounts Celine Castex, Giroptic’s Country & Communications Manager in Japan. “As a finalist, I got invited to have a booth at Pirate Summit in Germany, and it led to very interesting opportunities in Europe as well.”
Castex highlights Giroptic’s ambitious goals of expanding reach, with a specific target in mind: “Entering the Japanese market has always been one of our main goals due to the deep interest that Japanese people have for 360° imaging technology,” she tells. Further, Giroptic created their new camera especially Japanese users in mind: “You can preview your content right away. It is extremely easy to use and, last but not least, it is shaped like a cute animal!”
According to Castex, Giroptic is here to stay: “In 5 years, VR will be part of everybody’s daily life, just as the smartphones now. I hope to see Giroptic’s real-time image fusion technology integrated into every smartphone, TV and computer screen.”
For aspiring entrepreneurs as well as up-and-coming startups, Castex stresses one piece of advice: “I can’t insist enough on the importance of building a good network by participating in events like Slush. One month after, I was lucky enough to meet a fellow contestant in the Pitch Competition, Allan Watanabe, from Pipeline. I also had the opportunity to see Masashiro Nagata and Ryota Tomiyama, from Lifestyle, who were exhibitors in my city in France.”
Some of the contacts you make at Slush might help you with your business and some might become friends for life. “I’ve kept in touch with a lot of amazing entrepreneurs that I’ve met at Slush. I can’t wait to see them again the next time I’m in Japan!” Celine sums up.
