You already know the person we’re looking for. Every company has a few of them. The one who knows both you and your product from head to toe. They can recount every step you’ve taken together to get where the company is right now. They may have co-founded the whole thing with you; they may be the first person you ever hired. They even remember the ridiculous name you gave to your prototype. I mean seriously, what were you thinking?
They may be founding team members. They may have an operative role. They go by many names and titles, since it’s not their position what defines their importance to the company. What defines them is their capability to do amazing things so seamlessly well that their work is not visible to the rest of us. But without them, the whole thing would implode in a second.
Today’s social media cacophony encourages personal horn-tooting and making oneself heard at any cost. In this kind of culture, having the loudest voice often gets mistaken for having the most powerful argument. If we assume the loudest are always the greatest, many important achievements and accomplishments go unnoticed. In the storybook of overnight successes and self-made business people, the space for the quiet ones remains narrow.
We at Slush enjoy the silence. We think that invisibility is an exceptional talent. Power and visibility aren’t always aligned, nor they should be. Many think that the person at the top of the pyramid – taking the main stage, leading the boardroom discussion, being the face of the company in the world – is the one with the reins and responsibility. But it’s often someone fairly unknown to the public who bears much of that weight. This year, we want to bring these people and their talent forth.
Any bells ringing yet? If you can’t think of anyone… then, hey, it’s probably you!
Reveal yourself! The application closes on 5th of August. We’ll get back to you by the end of August.
Not you this time? Not to worry. But you do have someone in mind, right? Who do you want to see taking the stage at Slush this year? We’d like to hear. Join the conversation on our social media accounts – Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin – to share your ultimate wishlist with us.
